The stem of the common mallow is round and rather thick. The leaves are rounded in lobbed with hairs on the underside. The mallow flowers are very attractive and are pink or purplish coloured with dark veins. Each flower consists of five petals. The mallow seed are flattened disc resembling cheese (hence the other name cheese flower).Common mallow contains anti-oxidants, including poly phenols and anthocyanins, which explains its beneficial effect on gastroenteritis. Eating of mallow leaves will ease gut irritations and will give a laxative effect. Tea made from mallow roots has diuretic properties and helps to ease painful urination.
